A SIP calculator gives you one big number. This free Excel sheet shows how it gets there, then what is left after tax and after inflation, so you can plan with the number you will actually use.

- SIP tab: monthly SIP, expected return and years, then the amount invested, the corpus and the gain.
- Tax: equity long-term capital gains at 12.5% on gains above ₹1.25 lakh in a year, if you redeemed everything at once, and the corpus after that tax.
- Today's money: the after-tax corpus discounted by the inflation you enter.
- Step-up SIP tab: the SIP rises by your chosen percentage every year, with a month-by-month table for up to 40 years and the extra corpus the step-up adds.
- Lumpsum tab: a one-time investment grown at your expected return.
The formulas
SIP corpus = FV(rate ÷ 12, months, −SIP, 0, 1). The last 1 means each instalment goes in at the start of the month, which is how most SIP calculators, including ours, count it. ₹10,000 a month at an assumed 12% a year for 15 years comes to about ₹50.46 lakh on ₹18 lakh invested.
Step-up: the same ₹10,000 raised by 10% every year grows to about ₹86.84 lakh, on about ₹38.13 lakh invested. The month table does it the long way: each month's SIP is added to the balance and the balance grows by a month's return.
Returns of 12% are an assumption, not a promise. Equity funds can return far less, or lose money, over shorter periods. Change the rate cell and watch how much the end number moves; that sensitivity is the most useful thing the sheet shows.

- What is the SIP formula in Excel?
- =FV(annual rate/12, years*12, -monthly SIP, 0, 1). The final 1 treats each payment as made at the start of the month. The free sheet on this page has it set up.
- How do I calculate a step-up SIP in Excel?
- Build a month table: the SIP for month m is the starting SIP × (1 + step-up)^INT((m−1)/12), and each month's value is (last month's value + this month's SIP) × (1 + annual rate/12). The step-up tab does this for up to 40 years.
- Is tax deducted on SIP returns?
- Tax is due when you redeem, not while you hold. For equity funds held over a year, gains above ₹1.25 lakh in a financial year are taxed at 12.5%. The sheet shows the tax if you redeemed everything at once; spreading redemptions over years can lower it.
