Sukanya Samriddhi has two dates that confuse most calculators: you deposit for 15 years, but the account matures 21 years after it was opened. In the six years between, the balance keeps earning interest with nothing new going in. This free Excel sheet shows every year, with your daughter's age next to it, so you can see what is there when she turns 18 and when the account matures.

What's in the sheet

  • Inputs: the yearly deposit, the rate, her age when the account is opened, and the year you open it.
  • Totals: amount deposited, maturity value, tax-free interest, and her age at maturity.
  • The balance when she turns 18, when up to half can be withdrawn for her education.
  • A 21-year table: her age, the deposit, the closing balance and the calendar year.

The formula, so you can check it

For each year, closing balance = (last year's balance + this year's deposit) × (1 + rate), with the deposit set to zero from year 16. At 8.2% (the rate for October–December 2026), ₹1,50,000 a year comes to about ₹71.8 lakh after 21 years: ₹22.5 lakh deposited and about ₹49.3 lakh of tax-free interest. ₹1,000 a month (₹12,000 a year) comes to about ₹5.75 lakh.

The sheet assumes each year's deposit is in by 5 April. Like PPF, interest is worked out on the lowest balance between the 5th and the end of each month, so money paid later in the year earns less that year.

Rules the sheet follows

  • Open it any time before she turns 10; one account per girl, up to two girls in a family (more in the case of twins or triplets).
  • Deposits: ₹250 to ₹1,50,000 a financial year, for 15 years from opening.
  • Up to 50% of the balance can be withdrawn after she turns 18 for higher education. The account can also close early on her marriage after 18.
  • The rate is set every quarter, so a 21-year figure is an estimate. Interest and maturity are tax-free; deposits get the old-regime deduction up to ₹1.5 lakh a year.
