No fitment factor for the 8th Pay Commission has been notified. The commission was set up on 3 November 2025 and has until May 2027 to report. What circulates in the meantime are guesses at one lever, the fitment factor, and tables that multiply basic pay by it. Those tables overstate the hike, because they forget that the DA you already get is folded into the new basic and restarts at zero. This sheet does it properly, for both salary and pension.
Download: 8th Pay Commission calculator (.xlsx, free)What the sheet does
- Takes your 7th Pay Commission basic pay, today's DA and your city class.
- Tests any fitment factor you type, and shows the four figures doing the rounds side by side.
- Compares the revised basic with your basic plus DA today, which is the fair test of how much your pay really rises.
- Has a separate block for pensioners: basic pension plus dearness relief today, against the revised pension.
- A plain .xlsx with no macros, for Excel, Google Sheets and LibreOffice, licensed CC BY 4.0.
Basic pay ₹35,400, worked through
With DA at 60%, basic pay of ₹35,400 brings in ₹56,640 today. Here is what each factor would do, measured against that:
- 1.92 (conservative): revised basic ₹67,968, a real rise of ₹11,328 a month, or 20%.
- 2.28 (central estimate): ₹80,712, up ₹24,072, or 42.5%.
- 2.57 (upper estimate): ₹90,978, up ₹34,338, or 60.6%.
- 2.86 (union demand): ₹1,01,244, up ₹44,604, or 78.8%.
Multiply ₹35,400 by 2.28 and compare it with ₹35,400 alone, and the rise looks like 128%. That is the number that goes viral. Against what you actually take home in basic plus DA, it is 42.5%. The 7th Pay Commission worked the same way.
What the fitment factor does to your pay, explainedPensioners
A basic pension of ₹25,000 with 60% dearness relief pays ₹40,000 today. At a factor of 2.28 the revised basic pension is ₹57,000, with dearness relief restarting at zero: a real rise of ₹17,000 a month. Family pension works the same way; type the basic family pension instead.
What the sheet does not do
- It does not predict the factor. Nobody can until the commission reports and the government accepts it.
- HRA is shown at today's 30%, 20% and 10% rates on the revised basic. The government notifies the new HRA slabs separately.
- Transport allowance and other allowances are left out, so the gross is indicative.
Frequently asked questions
- Has the 8th Pay Commission fitment factor been announced?
- No. The commission was constituted on 3 November 2025 and has 18 months, until May 2027, to report. Figures like 1.92, 2.28 and 2.86 are estimates and demands, not notified numbers.
- Why is the real salary increase smaller than basic × fitment factor?
- Because the DA you already get is merged into the revised basic and restarts at zero. The fair comparison is the revised basic against today's basic plus DA, not basic alone.
- Does the sheet work for pensioners?
- Yes. It has a pension block: enter the basic pension or basic family pension and today's dearness relief.
- Does the sheet work in Google Sheets?
- Yes. Upload the .xlsx to Google Drive and open it with Google Sheets; the formulas carry over.
