Every salary hike calculator does the same multiplication: current CTC times the hike percentage. That number is not what lands in your account. Between the CTC and your salary credit sit the employer's PF share, gratuity, your own PF, professional tax and income tax, and the tax part grows faster than the rest once you cross the ₹12 lakh line. This sheet follows a hike all the way to the monthly in-hand.
Download: Salary hike calculator (.xlsx, free)What the sheet does
- Takes your current CTC and the hike, and works out the new CTC.
- Carries both through employer PF and gratuity to gross salary, then your PF, professional tax and FY 2026-27 new-regime tax (₹75,000 standard deduction, the 87A rebate up to ₹12 lakh of taxable income, marginal relief and 4% cess) to the in-hand per month.
- Shows the in-hand rise in rupees and per cent, how much of the CTC increase reaches your pocket, and the hike after the inflation you expect.
- Puts two other offers next to it, so a job switch can be compared on in-hand, not CTC.
- A plain .xlsx with live formulas and no macros, for Excel, Google Sheets and LibreOffice, licensed CC BY 4.0.
Two hikes of 30%, worked through
With basic pay at 40% of CTC, PF on full basic and ₹2,400 of professional tax a year:
- ₹8 lakh to ₹10.4 lakh: in-hand goes from about ₹58,784 to ₹76,479 a month, up ₹17,695. Taxable income stays under ₹12 lakh both times, so about 88% of the CTC increase reaches you.
- ₹15 lakh to ₹19.5 lakh: in-hand goes from about ₹1,03,581 to ₹1,30,680 a month, up ₹27,099. That is a 26% rise, not 30%, because tax climbs from about ₹81,800 to ₹1,54,700 a year. Only about 72% of the CTC increase reaches you.
The same headline hike is worth noticeably less in the pocket once the new salary crosses into higher slabs. That is why two offers should be compared on in-hand per month, and why the sheet has room for them.
Income tax calculator: check your slabWhat the sheet does not do
- It assumes the new regime. If you claim large deductions in the old regime, use the income tax calculator for the tax line.
- Some employers cap their PF share at ₹1,800 a month; if yours does, your gross is a little higher than the sheet shows.
- Variable pay, joining bonuses and surcharge above ₹50 lakh are left out.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I calculate in-hand salary after a hike?
- Apply the hike to CTC, take out the employer's PF and gratuity to get gross salary, then subtract your PF, professional tax and income tax. The sheet does each step with the FY 2026-27 new-regime rules.
- Why is my in-hand rise smaller than my hike percentage?
- Tax rises faster than salary once taxable income crosses ₹12 lakh, because the 87A rebate stops and higher slabs apply. Below that line most of the increase reaches you; above it, a smaller share does.
- Can I compare two job offers with it?
- Yes. Enter each offer's CTC in the other-offer columns and compare the in-hand per month row.
- Does the sheet work in Google Sheets?
- Yes. Upload the .xlsx to Google Drive and open it with Google Sheets; the formulas carry over.
