22K vs 24K, GST & what you pay

24K is pure gold (99.9%) — used for coins, bars and investment. 22K (~91.6% gold) is harder-wearing, which is why most jewellery is 22K; its rate is about 91.6% of the 24K rate. One tola is 11.66 grams.

The rates above are international spot prices in rupees. A jeweller's bill is always higher because of 3% GST on the gold, 5% GST on making charges, and the dealer margin. So treat this as the benchmark, not the counter price.

Frequently asked

What is the gold rate today?
The panel above shows the live 24K and 22K gold price per gram, per 10 grams and per tola, refreshed through the day from international spot rates converted to rupees. Local jewellers' retail rates will be a little higher once making charges, 3% GST and dealer margin are added.
What is the difference between 22K and 24K gold?
24K is pure gold (99.9%) — soft, used mainly for coins and bars and for investment. 22K is about 91.6% gold mixed with other metals for durability, which is why most jewellery is 22K. Because 22K has less pure gold, its per-gram rate is about 91.6% of the 24K rate.
How much is 1 tola of gold?
One tola is 11.66 grams. So the tola rate is simply the per-gram rate × 11.66 — shown live above for both 24K and 22K.
Is there GST on buying gold?
Yes — gold and gold jewellery attract a special 3% GST rate. When you buy jewellery from a shop, that 3% is charged on the whole bill, making charges included; the 5% rate applies only to job work, when you give your own gold to be made into jewellery. Making charges and GST are on top of the metal value, so a jeweller's bill is always higher than the pure gold rate shown here.
Can I borrow against my gold?
Yes — a gold loan lets you pledge gold for a loan of up to 75% of its value, with no income proof needed. Use our Gold Loan Calculator to see how much you can get for your weight and purity at today's rate.
