Currency and lakh–crore–million–billion
Two everyday conversions in one place. Convert any major currency into Indian rupees at the real mid-market rate, and translate between the Indian (lakh, crore) and international (million, billion) number systems that trip everyone up. Both are instant, free, and run in your browser.
Mid-market rate vs what you receive
The converter shows the mid-market rate, the midpoint between buying and selling prices. Banks and remittance services add a margin to that rate and often a fixed fee, so the amount that arrives is lower. Compare the final rupee amount, not the headline rate, when you send money.
Lakh, crore, million, billion
One lakh is 100,000 and one crore is 10 million. Indian numbering places commas after the first three digits and then every two (1,00,00,000), while the international system groups every three (10,000,000). Mixing the two is the most common source of errors when reading foreign reports or quoting Indian figures abroad.
