Sarkari vs Private Salary Calculator
Govt post vs private CTC: in-hand salary year by year for 10 years, and the 10-year gap

How to use: Pick a government post or pay level and city class, then a private CTC and the yearly raise you expect.
ExampleSSC CGL ASO (Level 7), X city vs ₹8 LPA at 8% a year
सरकारी side (central govt, 7th CPC)
Post चुनिए या सीधे pay level
Starts at cell 1 of Level 7 (basic ₹44,900), one increment a year. No promotion.
Your assumption. 0 = today's DA (63%) held for all 10 years, so the sarkari figure is a floor. आगे DA कितना बढ़ेगा, कोई नहीं जानता।
Private side
Offer letter वाला CTC और हर साल का raise
Year 1 package. In-hand worked out like our in-hand salary calculator: Basic 50% of CTC, PF 12%, gratuity, professional tax, new-regime tax.
Default 8% is only a starting guess, not a fact. यह आपका अंदाज़ा है: अपनी company या field के हिसाब से बदलिए। 0% = no raise.
Not counted on either side: employer NPS / employer PF, pension, gratuity, job security, medical cover, perks, private bonuses and variable pay. Only the money that reaches your bank account each month.

Year 1 = the joining year. Sarkari: cell 1 of Level 7, one cell up each year, DA held at 63% (a floor), after NPS 10% and income tax. Private: ₹8 LPA growing 8% a year (your assumption), after employee PF, professional tax and income tax. In-hand can dip in the year taxable income crosses ₹12 lakh, where new-regime income tax starts.
In hand per month, year by year
Every family has this argument: the private job pays more today, the sarkari job keeps rising. This calculator runs both for 10 years from the same day and adds up what actually reaches your account. The government side uses the same official rules as our Sarkari Pay Calculator (7th CPC pay matrix, one increment a year, DA, HRA, transport allowance, NPS and new-regime tax). The private side uses the same rules as our in-hand salary calculator, with your CTC growing by the raise you choose.
Two numbers here are assumptions, and both are yours to change: the private raise (default 8% a year) and how much DA goes up (default zero, so the government figure is a floor). Everything else comes from official orders.

- Basic pay: CCS (Revised Pay) Rules, 2016, Schedule Part A (Gazette of India No. 512, 25 July 2016), Level 13 as amended by G.S.R. 592(E), 15 June 2017.
- DA: DoE Office Memorandum No. 1/2(i)/2026-E.II(B), 29 October 2026 (Cabinet approval 28 October 2026, PIB Release ID 2329485), 63% from 1 July 2026 (PIB).
- HRA: Department of Expenditure OM, 7 July 2017 (30% / 20% / 10% of basic once DA crosses 50%).
- Transport allowance: Department of Expenditure OM No. 21/5/2017-E.II(B), 7 July 2017 (doe.gov.in), plus DA.
- Income tax (both sides): new regime, tax year 2026-27, after the ₹75,000 standard deduction; no tax up to ₹12 lakh of taxable income.
- Private salary structure: Basic 50% of CTC, PF 12% of basic (employer and employee), gratuity 4.81% of basic, professional tax ₹2,400 a year, as in our in-hand salary calculator.
Central government posts only, starting at cell 1 of the level with one increment a year: no promotion, MACP or 8th Pay Commission. The private side has no job switches, bonuses or variable pay, and assumes the same raise every year. The private side deducts ₹200 a month of professional tax, as our in-hand calculator does; the sarkari side does not (it varies by state). Employer NPS/PF, pension, gratuity, medical cover and job security are not valued. Use it to see the shape of the race, not as a promise of either salary.
- What is counted in this comparison, and what is not?
- Only in-hand salary: the money that reaches your bank account each month. On the sarkari side that is basic, DA, HRA and transport allowance, minus your 10% NPS contribution and income tax. On the private side it is your CTC minus employer PF, gratuity, your own PF, professional tax and income tax. Not counted: the employer's NPS or PF share, pension, gratuity, medical cover, job security, perks, private bonuses and variable pay. Job security has real value, but no honest number can be put on it, so the tool does not try.
- Why does the sarkari side hold today's DA?
- DA is revised twice a year, but nobody knows the future rates, and the 8th Pay Commission's numbers are not out. So by default the tool keeps today's 63% for all 10 years, which makes the sarkari figure a floor: real pay will most likely be higher. If you want, set "Assume DA rises" to the number of points you expect each year; that is your assumption, not a forecast.
- What does the private yearly raise % mean?
- It is the average raise you expect on your CTC every year, compounded: at 8%, a ₹100 package becomes ₹108 in year 2 and about ₹117 in year 3. The 8% default is only a starting guess. Raises vary a lot by company, field and performance, and some years bring none, so change it to what you think is realistic for you. It does not include job switches or promotions.
- Is NPS in a government job the same as PF in a private job?
- Both take 10 to 12% of your pay into a retirement account, and both are deducted here, so the in-hand figures are fair to compare. The difference is the employer's share: the government adds 14% of basic plus DA to your NPS, while a private employer usually adds 12% of basic to your PF. That employer money is yours at retirement but never reaches your bank account monthly, so neither side counts it.
- Which government posts are in the list?
- Central government posts whose pay follows the plain 7th CPC pay matrix: SSC GD, MTS, CHSL, CGL, CPO, JE and Stenographer, Railway Group D, NTPC, ALP, JE and Station Master, RPF, TTE, Postman, IB, Coast Guard Navik, KVS teachers, AIIMS nursing officer, ISRO scientist and IAS/IPS entry. Agniveer, GDS and Army pay work differently and are not in the list. For any other central post, switch to "Pay level" and pick its level.
